Global air cargo demand increased by 4.1% year-on-year in August
According to data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the total global air cargo demand in August 2025 increased by 4.1% year-on-year in terms of cargo ton kilometers (CTK) compared to August 2024, with international demand growing by 5.1%. Air cargo capacity increased by 3.7% year-on-year in August 2024, with international capacity growing by 5.5%.
The total demand for global air cargo in August achieved year-on-year growth for six consecutive months. From a regional perspective, Asia Pacific airlines saw a year-on-year increase of 9.8% in air cargo demand and 6.9% in capacity in August; The demand for African airlines increased by 11% year-on-year; The demand for European airlines increased by 3.2% year-on-year; Latin America grew by 2.1%; The Middle East grew by 2.7%; North American airlines saw a year-on-year decrease of 2.1% in air cargo demand in August.
International Air Transport Association (IATA) President Willie Walsh stated that despite changes in global trade patterns, freight volumes continue to grow. As shippers attempt to mitigate the risk of tariff changes, some high-value goods are shifting from sea freight to air freight, benefiting air cargo.
