The centralized overhaul of the Guizhou section of the Shanghai Kunming Railway has been completed
On September 28th, with the installation of a new steel rail and the completion of the track bed cleaning and acceptance inspection, the nearly two month long major overhaul and centralized repair project of the Guizhou section of the Shanghai Kunming Railway officially came to an end. This centralized renovation started on August 1st, led and coordinated by China Railway Chengdu Bureau, and formed a special construction team with more than 20 railway units under its management to fully overcome the complex construction problems of mountainous railways in Guizhou, laying a solid foundation for railway transportation safety during the upcoming Mid Autumn Festival and National Day holidays.
The Guizhou section of the Shanghai Kunming Railway runs through the eastern mountains of the the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. There are many tunnels and bridges along the line, and some sections have a long service life. Affected by rain erosion, long-term rolling of trains and other factors, rail wear, track bed hardening and other problems are gradually highlighted, which has a potential impact on traffic safety and passenger riding comfort. In order to efficiently promote the overhaul operation, China Railway Chengdu Bureau has integrated more than 163 professional construction teams and invested more than 11000 staff members, adopting a construction mode of "time and area division" - using daily train operation intervals ("skylight period") to carry out operations and avoid interference with daily transportation.
During the construction process, the team focused on targeted remediation of key railway defects: approximately 135 kilometers of severely worn steel rails were replaced, and the high wear resistance and fatigue resistance of the new rails improved the load-bearing capacity of the railway line; Thoroughly screen approximately 109 kilometers of track bed, remove gravel and mud from the track bed, restore track bed elasticity, and reduce vibration and noise during train operation; Simultaneously complete supporting operations such as rail sleeper replacement, fastener maintenance, and geometric dimension correction of the track, comprehensively optimizing the technical status of the track. In addition, in response to the rainy and complex terrain in Guizhou's mountainous areas, the construction party has upgraded the drainage system of some sections to prevent line diseases caused by accumulated water in the roadbed during the flood season.
The successful completion of this major overhaul has not only solved the problem of existing railway lines in the Guizhou section of the Shanghai Kunming Railway, but also significantly improved the stability and safety of train traffic in this section. According to the relevant person in charge of China Railway Chengdu Bureau, the renovated line can better meet the demand for mixed passenger and freight trains. While ensuring the safe and smooth travel of passengers during the Double Festival, it also provides strong support for the efficient operation of the material transportation channel in the southwest region, further consolidating the transportation guarantee role of the Shanghai Kunming Railway as a national railway trunk line.
