In order to deepen the integration of railway and cultural tourism industry and better meet the travel needs of passengers, the reporter learned from China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway Kunming Bureau) that from April 13, 2025, the second pair of international passenger trains of the China Laos Railway, the train between Xishuangbanna and Luang Prabang, Laos, will expand the operating range, extend the operating section to Puer Station, and add Nadui Station, with 8 stops throughout the journey, bringing more travel convenience to the passengers of China and Laos.

Since the opening of the international passenger train from Xishuangbanna to Luang Prabang on April 13, 2024, it has quickly become a popular choice for cross-border travel between China and Laos due to its high efficiency and convenience. As of April 12th, the route has sent a total of 220000 passengers, including 81000 cross-border passengers, successfully building a convenient transportation bridge between the two major tourist cities.

With the strong support of the relevant departments of China and Laos, in order to further meet the growing demand for cross-border travel, on April 13 last year, the China Laos Railway added the second pair of international passenger trains from Xishuangbanna to Luang Prabang on the basis of the daily two-way passenger trains from Kunming South to Vientiane. In the initial stage, the train operated at a frequency of 4 days per week, stopping at 6 stations in Xishuangbanna, Mengla, Mohan, Moding, Mengsai, and Luang Prabang, achieving "same day round trip" between Xishuangbanna and Luang Prabang, significantly improving passenger travel efficiency and experience.

After this adjustment, the D85 international passenger train from Pu'er to Luang Prabang will depart from Pu'er Station at 7:22 am daily, with a new stop at Nadui Station, and arrive in Luang Prabang at 13:20 am; The D86 train from Luang Prabang to Pu'er departs from Luang Prabang station at 14:35 and terminates at Pu'er station at 20:13.

The head of the Passenger Transport Department of China Railway Kunming Bureau introduced that the second international passenger train adopts the power concentrated "Fuxing" high-speed train, with a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Cross border tickets for trains departing from Pu'er Station can be purchased through the China Railway 12306 website (including the client), as well as international ticket counters at seven stations including Kunming, Kunming South, Yuxi, Pu'er, Xishuangbanna, Mengla, and Mohan; Cross border tickets for Luang Prabang departure trains can be obtained through the Lao Railway Internet ticketing system, as well as the international ticketing channels of five stations in Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang, Mongsai and Boten.

It is necessary to remind passengers that if they buy tickets through the Internet, they must hold their valid passports before taking the train and exchange paper tickets at the international ticket windows of the designated stations in China and Laos, respectively. When cross-border passengers enter and exit the station and get on and off at the port, they must verify paper tickets.
